Cotton is a soft, breathable textile which is one of the most widely used natural-fiber cloths. The cotton fiber originates from the cotton plant and consists of nearly pure cellulose (the main constituent of the cell walls of plants & algae). The cellulose is arranged in a way that gives the cotton fibers a high degree of strength, durability, and absorbency. Evidence of cotton has been found in Mexican caves dating back to approx. 7,000 years ago. But cotton cultivation in the Old World began in India, where cotton has been grown for more than 6,000 year. Some authorities believe that the Egyptians had cotton as early as 12,000 B.C.

Did you know????
That Cotton when conventionally grown is the most heavily sprayed field crop on the planet. 25% of all insecticide used to grow crops is applied to conventional cotton. In California, 1 ¼ pounds of agricultural chemicals are used to produce the conventionally grown cotton in a single set of queen sheets. This is why we choose only organically produced cotton. By paying premium prices to the small-scale growers, organic practices are encouraged that protect the environment, the farmers, their families and their communities from exposure to toxic agricultural chemicals. If all cotton in the world was able to be grown organically it would reduce the amount of insecticides and pesticides used by 25%.
